The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA) is a seeking energetic, team-player to join our Design & Construction Team as the Port Technologist.
Reporting to the Manager, Design & Construction the Port Technologist requires an extensive set of technical and analytical skills, and the use of AutoCAD, MS Project, MS Office and other software.
In addition, this position is required to provide technical support through the preparation and management of AutoCAD drawings and related CAD files; site investigations, surveys, design and analysis; tendering and construction inspection; and providing detailed schedules for key capital projects using Microsoft Project software.
The position requires a familiarity with civil, architectural and structural drawings, reports and related technical information, as well as a detailed knowledge of AutoCAD software Autodesk Revit, and GPS surveying equipment and a familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project).
Under the guidance of the Manager, Design & Construction, specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- providing technical support in the implementation of the capital and major maintenance projects, including estimating quantities and costs for budgeting purposes, field surveys using land-based GPS and aerial drone technology, liaising with HOPA stakeholders, drafting, designing, tendering and construction contract administration
- providing technical support to internal departments through preparation of sketches, and 3 dimensional digital models
- assisting with the preparation of reports, technical memos, and information papers; collection of historical costing/design data, as well as staying abreast of current design specifications, construction standards, building codes, and health and safety regulations
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & LICENSES REQUIRED
- Technical / Community College – Civil Engineering or Architectural Technology and/or a combination of work-related work experience
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project)
- Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD software Autodesk Revit, and GPS surveying equipment
- Access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license is required
May be exposed to inclement environmental conditions while conducting surveys and/or inspections of piers/properties; exposure to open water, noise and dust during construction inspections; required to access construction sites where health/safety hazards may exist; office environment – may be required to sit for extended periods of time, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use; may be required to work at heights and travel (driving) to various sites and Ports.
