Marina Manager, Harbour West Marina

Go West! We’re looking for an enthusiastic and customer-oriented leader to guide the operation and growth of Harbour West Marina. Lead the Marina crew in creating and delivering a first-rate recreational boating experience offering, with the goal of being one of the best marinas in southern Ontario.

Under the general supervision of the Commercial Vice President, the Marina Manager will oversee, direct and supervise the daily management, maintenance, and development of Harbour West Marina operations. The Marina Manager will prioritize providing exceptional customer service to all boaters through the effective management of the marina staff and facilities. The successful candidate will possess advanced leadership abilities, and is able to drive success and take action in a dynamic marina environment.

What you’ll do:

General:

Daily management and operation of the Harbour West Marina, currently comprised of approximately 350 seasonal and transient slips, boat storage facilities accommodating approximately 400 boats, haul out and launch services, fuel dock and other service amenities. Overall accountability for operations, safety, customer experience and financial results.

The Marina Manager is responsible for the entirety of the Harbour West Marina operations and will manage the assets and business to ensure the potential of the facility is maximized and to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction. Additionally, the Marina Manager will ensure that the quality of Harbour West Marina operations accurately reflects the brand of HOPA Ports.

Recommend, develop and implement practices, policies, programs and operating procedures to ensure a safe, efficient and compliant Marina operation. 

Financial:

Prepare annual marina budget and quarterly forecasts, review financial results on a monthly basis and ensure the department operates efficiently and effectively from a financial perspective.

In conjunction with the Marina Office Administrator, ensure slip and storage legal agreements and other contracts are executed with customers; propose amendments to documents as required; implement and enforce rules and regulations contained within those documents.

Analyze customer accounts receivable statements on a regular basis and facilitate the collection of overdue accounts.

Facilities Management:

Conduct regular inspections of the marina facility to ensure facilities are maintained and meet all safety, legislative, legal, regulatory and environmental standards; coordinate necessary maintenance and/or capital work. Strategically manage Harbour West Marina’s indoor and outdoor storage land to ensure that the space is used efficiently and effectively.

Marketing & Customer Relations:

Proactively develop and implement strategies to market available boat slips and boat storage space to ensure facilities are utilized at maximum capacity. Set annual pricing for all marina services; conduct market research to ensure all fees are competitive within the marketplace.

Promote a positive image of the Harbour West Marina and ensure efforts are appropriately focused to ensure HOPA meets and/or exceeds customer expectations.

Facilitate the resolution of customer issues, complaints and concerns in an efficient manner that prioritizes the needs and satisfaction of the customer.

Build solid relationships with Marina stakeholders, industry leaders and community, ensuring effective support for the implementation of future development strategies for the Marina and boat storage operations.

Employee Development/Management:

Facilitate the recruitment process for seasonal staff including the launch and haul out crews, gas dock attendants, and the Dock Master.

Develop a strong, engaged and positive team. Recruit, manage, develop, coach and evaluate full-time Marina staff; ensure staff are equipped with proper tools and training to achieve an effective and safe work environment. Manage approximately 3 full time / 16 part time staff.

In conjunction with the Maintenance Manager, conduct daily “Tool Box” talk with the Marina & Maintenance staff.

The background you bring:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a marina/recreational boating Industry background
  • Post-Secondary Education in Business-related field (B.Comm, Business Administration, Marketing, Hospitality Management)
  • 2+ years of progressively responsible managerial experience (Preference will be given to candidates possessing experience in the management of marina operations)
  • Solid management, leadership, analytical and organizational skills
  • Pleasure Craft Operators Card an asset
  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency training
  • Radio Operators Certificate Maritime Card an asset
  • Small Non-Pleasure Vessel Basic Safety (MED A3) training
  • Emergency First Aid and C.P.R.;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products including Excel & Word
  • This position may be required to perform and/or supervise a range of physical tasks in a variety of weather conditions during the recreational boating season (May – September)

  • This position may be required to work weekends during the months of May through October
  • Work under limited supervision
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Working on or near water
  • Work with fuel products & waste
  • Physical; may be required to lift up to 23 kg
  • All employees must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19
