Lookout provides a new window on Hamilton’s working waterfront

A new viewing platform is now open to the public at Pier 15, at the Port of Hamilton.

The idea for a publicly-accessible lookout point, providing direct views of Hamilton Harbour, emerged from our discussions with the local community. HPA is undertaking a number of initiatives intended to give residents and other stakeholders a look ‘behind the gates’, to build awareness of Hamilton’s ongoing role as a port city.

The lookout is intended to provide a window onto the day-to-day life of a working port. It offers views of the ongoing construction of the Randle Reef facility, the west dockwall at Stelco, drydock (ship repair) activities, and vessel activity on the harbour.

The construction of the platform (designed and built by HPA’s own team) is the first step, and an important milestone for 2017.  Next steps will be to engage with the community, to get ideas about what we can do make the lookout an inviting, safe and informative space to experience Hamilton’s working waterfront.

Where is it?   210 Hillyard St., north of Burlington St.

When is it open?   Viewing hours are dawn-dusk, seven days a week.
