Steel-making commodities including iron ore, coal and coke represent 60% of the Port of Hamilton’s tonnage. Most of this cargo is used by Arcelor Mittal Dofasco’s Hamilton manufacturing operation.

Construction equipment, power plant components and pressure vessels are a few of the made-in-Ontario goods that gain a competitive edge by accessing the Port of Ontario’s efficient transportation infrastructure.


The Port of Hamilton’s agri-food assets include:

  • 3 grain terminals, primarily exporting Ontario-produced corn, wheat and soybeans.
  • 2 fertilizer terminals
  • 1 liquid sugar refinery
  • 1 oilseed crush facility
  • 1 biodiesel producer
  • + several terminals and trucking operations specializing in the storage and transport of food oils and liquid food goods.


Petrochemical commodities handled by the Port of Hamilton include: gasoline, biodiesel, jet fuel, bunker fuel, bitumen for asphalt construction, liquid asphalt.

Port of Hamilton provides essential construction materials to the GTHA construction market, including aggregates, finished steel, and asphalt.
