HPA is a Proud ‘First Mate’ Sponsor at Port Colborne Canal Days
2018 marks the 40th Annual Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival in Port Colborne. This four day celebration attracts more than 400,000 people over the Civic Holliday Weekend and celebrates the important history along the canal as well as Port Colborne’s working marine community.
Hamilton Port Authority is a long time supporter of Canal Days. This year HPA is proud to be a ‘First Mate’ Sponsor and the Presenting Sponsor of the Light House Tours. The tour gives participants the opportunity to enjoy a boat ride out to the main lighthouse and outer range light near the entrance to the Welland Canal, along with a guided tour.
These historic lighthouses have aided navigation for the past 115 years and are an important part of Port Colborne’s marine heritage. The 12.8m square tower of the inner lighthouse was constructed in 1903 followed by the 11m tall foghorn/outer lighthouse constructed in 1928.
